“How do I respond when people stare or react with disgust when they see my psoriasis? Especially children”
Thanks for your question, this is something I have battled with as well. First you must ask yourself are people really acting disgusted or is the feeling you are experiencing due to your own insecurities? I ask this, because if you are still insecure with your skin you will ALWAYS feel as if people are staring, even if they are not. Combating this issue really starts with you. You can’t control how others view you, but you CAN control how you respond and what you do! The simplest answer in my opinion is to either ignore people who act mean or “disgusted” OR you educate them. It really just depends on where you are with your psoriasis journey and your comfort level. For you and others who have experienced the same thing, I have create “Psoriasis Cards” for you to pass out if you catch someone staring:
Click the link above (Psoriasis cards), print them out, and the next time you see someone staring or saying something mean, simply pass them this card! If it’s a child saying something mean, pass the card along to their parent or guardian! A lot of times kids don’t realize what they are saying is hurtful, but kids can also be very loving and kind.
